Embody Your Setting: A Movement Workshop for Writers

We writers spend a lot of time in our heads. We sit hunched over our keyboards, dreaming up plots and characters, themes and worlds. This is as it should be.
But sometimes, we need to get out of our heads and into our bodies, especially when we're creating our fictional settings. Setting is the story element that grounds our characters - and our readers - in the physical world. So in order to make our settings come alive, we need to experience them with our bodies as well as our imaginations.
On February 22nd, I'll be combining my years of experience as a movement educator and author to teach a workshop called Embody Your Setting: Using Movement to Explore the Where of Your Story. Hosted by Katherine Grace Bond of Labyrinth: a Writer's Haven, this 3-hour workshop will guide you in exploring, experiencing, and clarifying the setting of your current W.I.P. or creating a new setting for a future work. Using movement, drawing, and writing, you'll define your setting's boundaries, populate it with objects your characters can interact with, and map a character's emotional journey through your setting. All activities are gentle, accessible, and adaptable - no prior movement experience required.
I hope you'll join me!
